Toris Collection is a quiet, passive app about tending a small ecosystem and listening to the birds that arrive. We keep it that way in how we handle data too: we collect as little as possible, we don't sell anything about you, and the birdsong is always free. This page explains — plainly and honestly — exactly what the app and this website do and do not collect.
Who we are
Toris Collection ("we", "us", "the app") is an independent project. This website
(torriscollection.com) hosts our landing page and legal documents. The app is
available for free on Google Play. You can reach us any time at
rokkyofarm@gmail.com.
What we collect, and why
1. Your email address — only if you write to us.
If you send us a note, our website sends you to a Google Form. There you may give us your email address (and any note you choose to write) so we can reply. That's the only reason we use it. We do not add you to any other list. If you never fill in the form, we never receive your email.
2. Advertising data — only inside the Android app, and only if ads are turned on.
The Android app includes Google AdMob. When ads are enabled, AdMob may access your device's advertising identifier and related technical information (such as approximate, coarse signals AdMob uses to serve and measure ads) to show a small, quiet banner and an entirely optional "support" reward ad. The reward ad is never required: it is a small extra you can choose to watch, and skipping it changes nothing about your garden, your field guide, or the radio. Ads never appear on the website, and there are no ads in the web version — this only applies to the native Android app. For details, see Google's advertising policies.
3. Standard server logs.
The app runs on Render, our hosting provider. Like almost any web service, Render's servers automatically keep standard technical logs (for example IP address, request time, and browser/user-agent) for security and reliability. We do not use these logs to build a profile of you, and we do not combine them with your email or your gameplay.
4. Anonymous gameplay state (no personal information).
Most of your progress — the land you chose, what you've planted, the birds in your field guide, keepsakes and notes — is stored on your own device, in your browser's local storage, as a "save code." This save code is not sent to us; it stays on your device unless you copy it yourself.
As a technical fallback, the app may also record some of this gameplay state (such as the current land, planted items, and which birds have been met) to a private Google Sheet we use as a lightweight backend. This record is tied only to a random identifier generated on your device — it contains no name, no email, and no account, and is not linked to the sign-up form. It exists so the app keeps working smoothly.
What we do not collect
To be clear, as of the date above, the app does not:
- collect your name, phone number, or contacts;
- collect your precise or background location;
- access your microphone, camera, photos, or files;
- use any third-party analytics, tracking, or telemetry SDK (for example Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, or similar) — none is built into the app;
- track your behaviour across other apps or websites;
- require you to create an account or log in.
Third parties we rely on
We keep the list short. Each has its own privacy policy:
- Google (Forms & AdMob) — closed-test sign-up form and, in the Android app, advertising.
- Render — hosting and standard server logs.
We also use open data sources — bird recordings from xeno-canto (under their Creative Commons licenses, with each recordist credited in the app) and species-interaction records from GloBI. These are sources of bird and ecology data, not personal data about you.
How long we keep things
- Email you send us: kept until you ask us to remove it.
- On-device save data: stays on your device until you clear your browser storage or uninstall the app; you are in control of it.
- Anonymous gameplay state (Google Sheet): kept only while it is useful for running the service, and cleared periodically. It contains no way to identify you.
- Server logs: retained by Render according to their standard practices.
Your choices and rights
- See or delete your email: email us at rokkyofarm@gmail.com and we'll show you what we hold and delete it on request.
- Ask us to forget you: email us at any time and we'll remove your address from our records.
- Clear your progress: clearing your browser's local storage or uninstalling the app removes the on-device save data.
- Advertising identifier: you can reset or limit it in your Android device settings (Settings → Google → Ads).
We do not sell your data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone. We only share data with the providers listed above, and only to the extent needed to run the sign-up form, hosting, and (optionally) ads.
Children
Toris Collection is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us their email, please contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and change the "Last updated" date above. Meaningful changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
